The Decision is made: IT’S TURKEY TIME

A few months ago, I was casually browsing slickdeals – as I usually do and I came across a thread that talked about Qatar Airways giving away FREE tickets to healthcare workers to ANYWHERE (anywhere Qatar Airways flies to) in the world.

Not only do you get just one ticket, but you actually get 2!

I quickly jumped on the deal and was pretty unlucky at getting any codes since they released a certain amount of codes on a daily basis and they would be snapped up pretty quickly by what I assume were bots. Also, each country only gets a certain amount allocated and the USA has so many healthcare workers. After failing a few tries, I ended up picking a random tiny country and I finally received this email:

I waited a few months because, after all, we’re in the middle of a pandemic but the expiration date for these codes was quickly approaching. Very few countries were open to tourists. Pretty much all of Europe was closed off to Americans. I realized that our choices were so slim — it came down to these two countries: Turkey or Mexico. Tickets to Mexico are usually pretty cheap since it’s our neighboring country so after some initial hesitation, I settled on Turkey.

I had never really heard of tourism in Turkey or much about the country at all aside from knowing that Fayfay wanted to go to Cappadocia (the place you’ve probably seen on Instagram with all the hot-air balloons), but after doing some research, it appears that this country has so much to offer. I don’t want to spoil anything so I will leave our adventures to future posts, but this post will mark the first post for the Turkey series. It’s probably going to be weird to travel during a pandemic but we’ll take all the proper precautions and of course, respect the local laws and regulations.

So yeah, that’s pretty much it. I’ve booked our tickets for October around our birthdays so it should be fun! Stay tuned!
