I can’t believe it but after a few weeks of discussion and searching we dove in headfirst and purchased a 2020 RAM PROMASTER 2500 159″ WB HIGH ROOF CARGO VAN.
I’ve officially graduated from the minivan life and moved on to the full-sized cargo van life. We plan on converting it into a camper that we’ll use on long road trips and moving between cities.
Reasons why we went with the Ram Promaster:
- PRICE – this was the primary factor. There are really only three options when it comes to high roof vans that people convert into tiny homes on wheels: Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit, and Ram Promaster. Our two-year-old Ram Promaster with ~30k miles was priced at $35k. A week ago, we went and looked at a 2018 Ford Transit with almost 100k miles, absolutely horrendous body condition, and it was going for $30k. Mercedes vans were simply out of our budget since they start at $50k+ and used ones are not much cheaper. Not to mention the repair costs for sprinters are astronomically higher.
- SPACE – The Promaster is the only van out of the three that’s wide enough to accommodate a full-sized bed and for us to sleep sideways. This gives us so much more room to work with since we want to put in a shower, kitchen, and seating areas. Also, the walls of the Promaster have the straightest walls which should make for easier conversion.
- LOOKS – In my opinion, the Promaster looks so much better than the Ford Transit and is on par with the Sprinter.
- LEATHER (PLEATHER?) SEATS – This might seem silly but we really liked the leather seats in this thing.

So yeah. That’s pretty much it. Stay tuned for updates and tutorials on her transformation into a tiny home!
