Welcome to day 2 of our Iceland trip! Today, we had an early start of around 7 am. We drove directly to Haifoss<\/a>, Iceland’s third-highest waterfall. The dirt road leading to the waterfall was a little bumpy at parts but nothing our campervan had problems with. You certainly don’t need a 4WD vehicle to get there. Once we arrived, we decided to make some breakfast in the cooking area since we were the only ones there. We probably could have just camped out here last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After breakfast, we did a short hike to the waterfalls and were blown away by what we saw. Iceland did live up to the hype after all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We spent a good hour or so just sitting and staring in awe. The best part of all was that we were the only ones there and no other visitors to be found!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was around 10 am when we noticed the first few visitors to the falls. There’s a trail that allows you to hike all the way to the bottom of the falls if you wish, but since the weather was beautiful, we wanted to take advantage and hike the Fagradalsfjall volcano so we headed out and drove west. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I found the visit Reykajanes<\/a> website super helpful for information on where we should park and which hike we should do. We ended up deciding on Hike C. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hike took us about 3-4 hours and the weather was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, the volcano was not very active that day (it normally stops erupting for several hours or days at a time), but it was still an amazing hike. We would later return towards the end of our trip to see the eruption so stay tuned!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the hike, we stopped by Issi fish and chips <\/a>and had some great post-hike dinner. From here, we could have started our ring-road drive either going South or North. I opted to head north since most people start the loop by going south first and I wanted to be a rebel. If we hadn’t driven all the way west to the volcano we probably would have started the loop by going south from Haifoss to save time and gas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An hour and a half or so, later, we decided to park our car and spend the night at Borgarnes Campsite<\/a>. It was a very basic campsite with toilets and no showers or common area but the views were beautiful. The cost was 1500IKR per person (~$12\/person). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
